Personal Reflection

Over the course of this class, I have learned a lot about classroom management. At the beginning, I didn't even know what PBIS or FBA/BIPs were. I now know that they are behavior management programs/plans that help students with positive interventions and supports, such as monitoring and reinforcement. I've learned a lot about how punishment can lead to difficult situations with students. It's more important to understand their antecedent (ABC) before reacting poorly to their behaviors. Simple things like proximity and asking the student what's going on can help.

Learning about rules and procedures has helped me a lot throughout this course as well. I never really thought about how they can prevent certain events from happening in your classroom and keep it an orderly place. It also helps the students become more organized and focused on their education.

I feel much more prepared to manage my own classroom in the future. I know that I still have a lot to learn, and that some of this experience can only come from being in the classroom, but I have come a long way from where I was at the beginning of this class. I'm thankful for all of the opportunities that I have had to learn in Educ 285.
